Coque en pâte

Collaboration with Maurice Nagalo and part of Hors Pistes residency in Ouagadougou.

I worked with Maurice Nagalo, a local designer and entrepreneur. We created an 100% natural, Safe and biodegradable composite material. It is made of locally sourced and naturally occurring components such as sap, root, bark, shells and leaves. It includes a light weight core made of a peanut shell ground and is reinforced by a natural fiber similar to hemp. The matrix is of our own formulation and is based on the sap of a local tree. It offers a safer and cheaper alternative to other construction materials typically available in the country. The nonexistent infrastructures and inadequate machines led me to use a giant plastic tub as a mould to make the chairs.
