About
Christophe Machet is a product designer and creative technologist
He finds unusual areas for actions, exploring how to use materials in new ways, irrespective of where they come from. Precious materials or trash, he takes them as they are, with their shape, roughness and strength. Then, he consistently experiments how to transform them, builds the appropriate tools and reincarnates them into functional objects. His work is not limited to recycling or re-using, he is sensitive to what surrounds him and has an eye for unleashing the unseen potential of materials.
His approach is one of a slight shift in perspective, towards materials that are usually rejected from the arena of industrial design. It is not just about thinking of a new process transforming materials into objects. It is about doing it, and this is where Christophe Machet excels. He has this ability to invest himself into the technical execution while keeping in mind the performative, formal and economic aspects of his exploration.
He has a double education in Engineering and Product Design. He holds a BA (Hons) from ECAL (Lausanne University of Art and Design). He also graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2012 with a double master MA/Msc in “Innovation Design Engineering”.
He currently works and lives in Paris, France.
